Juvederm® is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid. A naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration to your skin. Our skin consists of two layers, known as the epidermis and the dermis. The outer layer of skin the (epidermis) acts as the skin’s primary defense against the environment. The innermost layer of the skin the (dermis), is composed primarily of connective tissue and provides the skin with a support network. Most facial wrinkles and deeper nasolabial folds occur within the dermal layer of the skin.
Juvederm® injectable gel is generally well tolerated and most side effects are mild to moderate in nature. Duration is short, lasting 7 days or less. As with all skin injection procedures, there is a risk of infection. Most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injection site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching and discoloration.
The injection process takes only about 15 minutes and results are immediate. There is minimal recovery or downtime.
